How One Nursing Student Overcame Trials to Become an Oncology ICU Nurse

Play Episode

I recently had the opportunity to visit the Kentucky Student Nurse Association annual conference.  I always enjoy meeting student nurses and hearing their stories and sharing mine . . . that pumps me up!

Mercedes, RN is one of the regional directors for the KANS and I had the opportunity to sit with her and hear her story.  I couldn’t help but feel motivated.  She is the first person in her family to finish college, she joined the Army right out of high school, she recently passed the NCLEX in 75 and took a job in an Oncology ICU . . . AND . . . she’s an NRSNG super fan.

I asked her to share her story on the podcast.

Jon Haws RN began his nursing career at a Level I Trauma ICU in DFW working as a code team nurse, charge nurse, and preceptor. Frustrated with the nursing education process, Jon started NRSNG in 2014 with a desire to provide tools and confidence to nursing students around the globe. When he's not busting out content for NRSNG, Jon enjoys spending time with his two kids and wife.
